I’ve heard the phrase “the new normal” pretty often lately. Some people are very opposed to this verbiage. A new thing can be good though if God is doing it!
It speaks of this very thing in Isaiah 43:19. “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
But what is “normal” anyway?!
I am convinced that each person has their own version of normalcy, depending on the input they have received along the way. Some of the factors are environment, genetics, emotions, and life experiences of all sorts including the positive and the not-so-positive. We are all wired differently and, therefore, we all respond differently.
From our own unique life experiences, we adopt the standard that we become accustomed to. When external circumstances do not align with our version of “normal”, the human tendency is to buck the system per se. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the quick fix of selfish abruptness. As I find myself ready to throw my emotions into the wasteland of life, I often have to take a deep breath, pause and pray to seek God’s way. The “my way or the highway” attitude can cause us to miss His way - the best way.
Things are not as they appear. Sometimes better. Sometimes worse.
The only way we can discern the truth of the matter is to be alert and align ourselves with the Word of God. That is our standard.
Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — His good, pleasing and perfect will.”
It’s difficult to align attitude with righteousness when we find ourselves residing in an upside-down, inside-out, crazy world. The noise of opinions whirling around us can cause our perception to be off. No matter what the obstacle, I can be assured that God will make a way.
The question is “Do I trust Him?”
