Habit 2 ~ Trust/Faith

Updated: Oct 20, 2021

Here we are on the second day of my Seven Habits of a Godly Life study.

TRUST / FAITH Psalm 103:19 Proverbs 3:5-6

Today, I resolve to have more faith to place my complete trust in the Lord. Yesterday we talked about the significant importance of having a life of prayer. If you don’t trust God, you’re not going to pray.

When you don’t trust and pray as you should, it only leads to wrongdoing. Psalm 37:1 says “do not fret.” It’s what happens if we do not trust in God. It’s one or the other - we either trust or fret. A Godly life is a step beyond fretting to trusting.

Trust builds an intimate relationship with God. You don’t have to introduce yourself to Him - intimacy means you are close to one’s heart and their way of thinking. A Godly life is a life of trust.

God listens to us. Ask, trust, wait and obey.

God never said “Understand Me,” He said, “Trust Me!”

And then there’s the matter of FAITH.

What faith IS - complete trust or confidence in someone. What faith IS NOT - wishful thinking and believing in things that do not exist.

So what is the right definition of faith? "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen," writes the author of Hebrews. A few verses later faith is similarly defined as knowing that God exists and that God rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

I find it interesting that faith and trust go hand-in-hand. Perhaps the best word we can use to translate the Greek word "pistis" (usually translated as faith) is the word "trust" or "trustworthy." Suppose you tell a friend that you have faith in him/her. What does that mean? It means two things. First, you are sure the person you are talking to actually exists. And second, you are convinced he/she is trustworthy; you can believe what he/she says and trust in his/her character.

Faith looks like trusting even when situations didn’t go our way. It doesn’t always work out the way we want it to, but it always works out perfectly to fit into God’s plan.

Faith is being an overcomer according to 1 John 5:4.

If I were on the game show Jeopardy and the answer was “the victory that overcomes the world,” I would say “What is faith” and I would win!

Faith is a really big deal. It’s what we live by. “For we live by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7) Do you trust Him completely - not only with your circumstances but with your very life??

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I entrust my life." - Psalm 143:8 #joyfulnomatterwhat #7habitsofaGodlylife
