Habit 4 ~ Obeying God

Updated: Oct 18, 2021

OBEYING GOD Deut. 27:10 Deut. 28:1

These are simple habits that make your life to be what God wants it to be.

The reason we don’t do these things that are important is that we have decided to live the world’s way.

To know God is to love Him and to want to obey Him because we know He loves us and we can trust that He knows what is best for our life.

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” - John 14:15

The direct opposite of obedience is sin or rebellion against God - a stubborn resistance to obeying. Hebrews chapter 3, verses 13-15 spells it out clearly: "But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have come to share in Christ if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

Sin does not produce anything good. On the other hand, obedience is for our good and it will be rewarded. The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 7:23 that we will prosper if we obey: “I only gave them this command: ‘Obey me and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do all that I command, and good things will happen to you.’ “

It’s one thing to know the Word, it’s another thing to do what it says.

God requires obedience. Often times, selfishness and pride will creep in, trying to override obedience.

Selfishness - thinking your way is better than God’s way. “Who died and left you in charge?” The answer is God is not dead and you are not in charge! He is very much alive and, whether you choose to believe it or not, He is in control and WILL have His way!

Pride - well, you know what they say about that - “pride comes before the fall.”

“Dear God, no matter what happens, give me the heart that is willing to obey You whatever the cost may be.”
