It was one year ago on January 11th that I got the shocking news that my nephew, Greg at the age of 45, had taken his life and entered eternity.
At the same time, my mom was in the hospital, fighting for her 93-year-old life, wanting to live.
My brother had died just months before that.
That causes a person to think about a lot of things. It had me reevaluating my life - my purpose.
Had I fulfilled all God called me to do and say to encourage others to live well so they could die well?
I think of the scripture that says “…choose this day whom you will serve…” (Joshua 14:15). We are commanded by God to make a choice. There is no choice about making a choice. We all must choose without delay. We never know when our last day may be so choose this day - right now. Today!
The Bible makes it very clear that no man can serve two masters. Either we live worldly in oblivion like there is no eternity or we choose to live God’s way which will give us eternal life - that is, life after we die. This life is not all there is. Don’t be deceived. There is a heaven and there is a hell. Jesus is real. He came, died, rose again, and ascended to heaven to prepare a place for us to be with Him one day.
How do we get there? By choosing to accept Him into our hearts before we die. Every action has a consequence. If we choose Him, we will have life eternal in heaven. The opposite is also true. If we do not choose Him, we will have death eternal in hell. The time to choose is while we’re living. After we die, it’s too late!
You see, no matter what you’ve done or what you think you deserve, God still loves you. There’s a price to pay for our choices. God sent His son, Jesus, as a sacrifice for our sin. His death on the cross canceled our sin debt. Satan wants us to believe otherwise but the Truth is, if we accept what God did for us through Jesus, we will go to heaven when we die. He promises us eternal life. He rose from the grave and conquered death so we too can live through Him! He’s there, waiting in heaven for us when we die. That we can be sure of.
Think about it. Pray. Ask Jesus to come into your heart. Secure your place in eternity with Him, then death isn’t scary. Eternal life isn’t uncertain.
