Shore Up!

Updated: Nov 29, 2021

Have you been to the beach? More specifically, the pier? Some piers can hold carnivals or restaurants on them because they are STRONG!

But honestly, it is a simple wood platform on some pillars. It is a stable yet straightforward structure meant to withstand the wind and the waves of the ocean. It provides a safe place for folks to walk and enjoy the ocean views or perhaps a source of nourishment for people to fish there.

A quality that a good, healthy friendship has is support for one another. You support them right where they are at, and you provide strength for each other. You encourage.

Like the pier, we can "shore up" one another to support, prop up or provide stability.

When you feel weak, your friend will prop you up! They will go to bat for you, and you know you would do the same for them.

We shore up one another in prayer, in words of encouragement, in acts of kindness, especially when they are in a difficult season. This is authentic friendship on display.

How can you "shore up" a peer today? Let's look for simple yet powerful ways to be like a pier and be a safe, stabilizing place for one another.

"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity." Proverbs 17:17
